Crochet Goldfish Appliqué {free crochet pattern}

Here's a cute little goldfish to add to the baby boy sun hat I made. I was inspired by the goldfish pattern on Crochet Spot, but it was smaller than I wanted. So, I changed the beginning chain into a foundation chain and made it and the tail bigger! It's so easy and works up very quickly.

Goldfish Appliqué
By Sara McFall of My Merry Messy Life
Size: 3 inches wide (7.6 cm) by 1 1/2 inches tall (4 cm)

Abbreviations
CH = chain
SL ST = slip stitch
SC = single crochet
HDC = half double crochet
DC = double crochet

Hook Size: H
Yarn: Red Heart Super Saver in Carrot (worsted weight, 4, medium)

First, work 7 foundation chains. Click here to see my tutorial on foundation chains. (the original SL ST and CH 1 do not count as 1 foundation chain)

Then, work 1 SC in the 2nd foundation CH from hook. Next, work one HDC in next CH, then 1 DC in each of the next 2 chains. Then, 1 HDC and one SC in the last CH.

Work 1 SC in the beginning SL ST and CH 1 space, then turn your work and work on the other side of the foundation chain to create the rest of the body.

Work the rest of the body on the other side (7 stitches total on this side, not including the SC worked in the beginning SL ST and CH 1)
SC, HDC, DC, DC, HDC, SC

To work the tail, SL ST in next space and CH 3. Work 3 DCs in the same space. The picture shows just the CH 3 and 1 DC worked in the next space.

Fasten off and sew in the tails and you're done!

Sew it to your favorite project!
