DIY Sun Relief Spray with All Natural Ingredients - Super Easy!

I forgot Sunscreen and Got Fried!

I went with one of my besties to the farmer's market this Saturday, and shame on me, did not go prepared with sunscreen. We were having so much fun, leisurely walking around without the kids, gabbing away, that I thought I'd be okay. The temperature rose to 78 degrees and it was bright and sunny! I was wearing a tank maxi dress, and this fair-skinned, freckled girl got fried. Yep, my shoulders turned a nice shade of hot pink! I can hear my mom scolding me now…

I Love Apple Cider Vinegar for Skin

So, in order to ward off any blistering and peeling, as I could tell it was going to be bad, I thought I'd try some good ole apple cider vinegar (ACV), aloe and lavender oil. Those of you who've been around here for a while know how much I love ACV – it was one of the very first things I wrote about and continues to be one of the most popular posts on the blog two years later!

I've also written about how I use it on me and my kids when we get any kind of insect bite – it really helps to stop the itching. And of course, how I use it as a clarifying rinse as part of the Curly Girl Method!

Naturally, I turned back to it for help and it delivered. I've sprayed this natural sun relief spray on my toasted skin about four times and it really helped!

Instructions

Pour all of the ingredients in your bottle. Spray where needed and let air dry. Use 2-4 times a day until your skin feels better.

Some Notes for Success

  • Essential oils and apple cider vinegar can sometimes sting on open cuts or wounds for this with sensitive skin. If it irritates your skin or you're using it for kids, then reduce the amount of either ingredient. Or just add more water until it is diluted to your liking.
  • Keep away from the eyes and any open wounds or cuts as it will burn (I just hold my hand over my kids' eyes and it does the trick).
  • Start with a sanitized glass bottle – boil it on the stove for a few minutes, but soap and hot water will work, too.
  • This recipe is very safe – use it as many times as you need it.
  • Don't worry, you won't smell like a walking pickle jar – the vinegar scent evaporates quickly.
  • The aloe is optional, just a booster to make it even better. Other ideas include vitamin e oil, jojoba oil, and even olive oil.
  • Lavender oil is great for the skin, others to try would be Gentle Baby (a blend), Ylang Ylang, or Carrot Seed.

It's now been a week and I never did have any peeling, itching, blistering or anything after using this natural sun relief spray. I was certain all of that was coming because I've been burned like that before, but it didn't! It looks like the power of God's nature came in once again and kapowed it's butt!

    1. I’m sorry, I don’t know exactly. But each time I make it I keep it for a year or so. I keep it in a cabinet in a dark brown bottle so the sun doesn’t damage it.
