Homemade Sugar Scrub Recipe - Citrus Coconut Scent and All Natural

How do Sugar Scrubs Work?

Don't you just love having little luxuries in the bathroom? Especially ones that smell amazing, are good for you, all-natural and don't break the bank? Well this one covers all of that. Oh yeah, baby. You can use this to:

  • Exfoliate
  • Moisturize
  • Cleanse
  • Remove makeup and dirt

It can also be a great way to wash your hands and body, especially during the winter months when the skin gets very dry and cracked. You can incorporate ingredients that actually heal and protect your skin, too!

What's Special About Coconut Oil?

Coconut oil has it's own healing qualities due to the lauric acid it contains, a medium chain saturated fatty acids (MCFA) that is converted in the body into a compound called monolaurin, an antiviral and antibacterial that destroys a wide variety of disease causing organisms. So, coconut oil does more than other carrier oils by killing germs while at the same time, drawing them out of the body.

Add Essential Oils for a Powerful Punch

Essential oils make everything amazing, really! But seriously, they do. I chose to use Citrus Fresh in this recipe because it has such an uplifting scent, and it also really helps to fight germs. I used to buy whatever essential oils I could get my hands on but quickly learned that they didn't work and were not organic and adulterated. I fell in love with EO's once I discovered Young Living and haven't looked back since!

Oily/Acne Prone Skin

Use Citrus Fresh (blend of orange, tangerine, lemon, mandarin, grapefruit, and spearmint), Lemon, Orange, Tangerine, Geranium, Peppermint, or Melrose (blend of melaleuca, melaleuca alternifolia, rosemary, and clove), Rosemary, or Tea Tree.

NOTE – All of the citrus oils are photosensitive and can cause your skin to burn if exposed to the sun within 12-24 hours.

Dry, Cracked Skin

Use one or more of the following – Neroli, Lavender, Frankincense, Roman or German Chamomile, Cedarwood, Myrrh, Blue Tansy, or Sandalwood

Aging Skin and Wrinkles

Frankincense (great for wrinkles!), Myrrh, Rose, Lavender, Cypress, Gentle Baby, Joy, or Sensation

Instructions

Soften the coconut oil over the stove or in the microwave – 10-15 seconds should be enough. Mix all the ingredients in a bowl, stirring well. Spoon into a glass container (essential oils eat through plastic and destroy it, unless it's PETE or HDPE plastic).
