Free Crochet Chick Hat Pattern

Here is a super cute crochet chick hat pattern for little ones to wear during springtime or Easter!

I just love springtime!  It is such a great time of the year, all of the animals seem to be out enjoying the weather, too. Where I live there are a bunch of chicks roaming around, so I was inspired to make a little hat that looks like them in sizes toddler through adult. I hope you enjoy it!

Free Crochet Chick Hat Pattern for Sizes Toddler through Adult - perfect for springtime and Easter!

This Crochet Chick Hat is the CUTEST!

Isn't it just adorable? I think it is soo cute! The crazy hair really brings this chick together. The kids liked it so much, they decided to name the hat “Pameena Chick.” I don't know if that will stick, LOL. The bow is totally optional and can even be placed below the beak like a little bow tie. I wrote the pattern for three sizes: toddler, child, and adult.

Suitable for Beginners

This is a very simple crochet chick hat pattern.  It technically uses three stitches – half double crochet, front post half double crochet, and back post half double crochet. There are instructions for both the front post half double crochet and the back post half double crochet.  The only real difference in the stitches is the placement.  Please don't let that discourage you from trying this pattern.

Chick Beak Crochet Tutorial

The beak is hand sewn onto the hat. You can stitch it any way you like.  I chose to stitch the yarn around in straight lines.  There is no wrong way to do this.  For the point of the beak I went straight into the bottom center of the triangle I was forming.  Then I weaved in the ends of the yarn to make sure that they were secure.

Crochet Hair Tutorial

I cut 6.5 inch strands of yarn.  I then layered them together in groups of 5.  I picked the  4 center spaces at the top of the hat. (Really any 4 spaces at the top should work, just make sure that they are in the center.) I used a slip knot to add each group of yarn. Cut it to the length that you prefer.

Crochet Bow Pattern

  1. Ch 12, hdc into the 3rd chain from the hook, hdc into each chain. Turn.
  2. Ch 2, hdc into each stitch. Turn.
  3. Ch 2, hdc into each stitch. Turn.
  4. Tie off.
  5. Take a strand of yarn and wrap the center of the rectangle that you just created.
  6. Sew onto the hat and weave in all of the ends.

Done.  I hope you enjoy this crochet chick hat pattern! Merry Crocheting!
