Yep, I gotta say it. So, here it goes! I am not a medical professional. The information shared in this class is not intended to treat, cure, or diagnose any illness, nor is it meant to replace professional medical attention or advice. Advice and testimonies are all based on use of Young Living brand of oils specifically. Use and application of this information is done solely at your own risk.

We are not experts, and the great news is, you don’t need to be an expert to make better choices for your health and wellness! It just takes some research and experimentation. There are many wonderful reference guides, books and resources available about how to use essential oils. Find them at places like Amazon, Life Science Publishing, and abundanthealth4u.com. Ask your sponsor for more details and which books are their favorites!

I believe that when you give the body the support it needs, it can then heal itself.

What Are Essential Oils?

What are Essential Oils and Why Do We Use Them?

Essential oils are steam distilled or pressed from plants – from the leaves, roots, bark, stems, rinds or seeds. They are powerful antioxidants and support our immune system that way.

They are much more concentrated, and therefore, more potent than dried herbs. One drop of peppermint oil is the same as 26 cups of peppermint tea! One drop of lemon oil is the same as 16 lemon rinds!

They are the lifeblood of the plant that initiates regeneration into the cells. They support the immune system of plants, and they work the same for humans. Anything that our blood does for us is what the essential oils do for the plant.

Essential oils can quickly penetrate the tissues of the skin, and from there diffuse throughout the body in the blood and tissues

They can affect the body at the cellular level by supporting cellular health and normal cellular regeneration and by supporting the immune system.

Essential oils work synergistically with the body to support normal body processes because they are recognized by the body as nutrients.

They oxygenate the cell, support the body’s natural detoxification processes, make cells more permeable, defend against unwanted guests in our bodies. Some can cross the blood brain barrier, like Cedarwood, Vetiver, and lavender. Those oils are helpful for supporting ALL body systems - skeletal, muscular, cardiovascular, digestive, endocrine, nervous, respiratory, lymphatic, urinary, reproductive and integumentary body systems.

Essential Oil Frequency

Each oil, just like every living thing, carries a scientifically measurable frequency.  Essential oils have the capacity to raise your body frequency. The more you are applying oils on yourself and family, the higher your body frequency and the potential for better overall health increases. Use them often for best results.

ORAC Scale

Essential oils also carry an antioxidant value called the ORAC score. ORAC stands for oxygen radical absorbance capacity which is basically the oils capacity to inhibit free radicals. When you think of an antioxidant what do you think of? Blueberries. Well, clove essential oil contains the highest ORAC value at over 1 million vs. blueberries at 2400.

Just as our bodies are constantly changing and adapting to the environment, so are plants and thus essential oils adapting to the environment, weather, soil, etc. This is the beautiful thing about therapeutic grade essential oils. They are always a bit different and will vary from batch to batch because they aren’t made up in a lab.

If you find a brand of essential oils where every bottle smells exactly the same, that is a red flag that the essential oil has been chemically altered.

Young Living's Seed to Seal Commitment to Quality

Here's Why I Chose Young Living

I have been using essential oils for many years now, but for most of the time, only used them in cleaning supplies. I bought the cheapest oils I could find on Amazon and online, they smelled nice for my homemade cleaning supplies but didn't work when I used them for the health of me and my kids. I thought all essential oils must be a quack and pretty much gave up on them for about 2 years.

That all changed when I started buying Young Living. I used them the first day my Premium Starter Kit arrived, and I was amazed at the quality, scent and effectiveness. They worked right out of the box!

One thing that’s good to know is that essential oils are not regulated by the FDA, so you do have to do your own research to make sure you're buying a truly pure oil. Their only requirement is that 5% of the oil be pure therapeutic grade oil for it to be called, “pure, therapeutic grade.” Companies are allowed to add fillers, water, synthetic chemicals and more!

Young Living was founded in 1993, and is the oldest, most trusted essential oil company in the world. Young Living has 21+ years of research and experience, and is the only company that has the Seed to Seal® guarantee. Our guarantee is the heart of our commitment to purity and authenticity. You deserve products that are genuine, free of synthetic chemicals, and of unmatched purity, and that is what you get with the Young Living.

So, I’m going to walk you through that Seed to Seal process.

Seed

Young Living uses the proper species of seed, the one that is most robust and will yield the highest potency of oil. This is very important for making a high quality oil that works.

Cultivate

Next, all the plants are organically grown beyond certified organic standards (composting, total sustainable farming), so no pesticides or herbicides are used. The weed control is literally done by hand! And this is perhaps most important of all, and something a lot of companies skip – the plants are harvested at the appropriate time of year when they are fully mature and contain the most constituents.

Distill

Young Living preserves the oils’ full range (hundreds to thousands) of chemical constituents by using low temperature steam distillation. The proper part of the plant is distilled, without any chemicals, and only done once. What does that mean? Young Living Oils are first distillation only. Think of making coffee. The first cup is rich, dark and very tasty. If you keep those same grounds in the coffee maker and run the water back over them, that second cup would be watered down and brown, but might still taste okay. Do it again and again and soon enough, you have nasty brown water. Young Living distills plant matter one time and then composts it, like that first cup of coffee!

Test

Young Living uses its own internal labs, in addition to third-party audits, to verify that international purity and potency standards are met and surpassed. They complete 8 different tests on every batch of oil that is made.

Seal

All of the oils are bottled with care and labeled at our warehouse in Spanish Fork, Utah. And last, Young Living owns it’s own farms unlike most other companies. They control the entire process at each farm. Anyone is welcome to visit farms and view distilleries. Young Living is a full disclosure company!

Three Ways to Use Essential Oils - Aromatically, Topically, Internally

Three Ways to Use Essential Oils

Now before we discuss the three ways to use essential oils, I want to share an important note about the FDA. They require Young Living to label their oils as either dietary and cosmetic. Young Living had to choose the PRIMARY usage for each oil, since they can be used in so many different ways. YL follows the French model of essential oil usage because of the high quality of our essential oils. If in doubt about how to use an oil it’s always great to start with the primary usage on the label and then go from there as you see fit for your family.

  1. AROMATICALLY: When inhaling, it takes 22 seconds for an oil to reach the brain. The only way to reach limbic system is through smell, which is why oils are such a great option for those for those needing emotional support and support for their nervous system.Diffusing is another way we inhale oils (point out diffuser in room), it purifies the air, makes your home smell good without chemicals, great for respiratory support, stubborn spouses and crazy kids. Having more than one diffuser is a plus too.
  1. TOPICALLY: Because of their molecular structure, essential oils are rapidly absorbed by the skin. Sometimes when you apply an oil to the skin, it almost seems to disappear into the body. When applied topically, it takes 23 minutes for an oil to reach the bloodstream, 20 minutes to affect every cell in the body, then metabolized within 2 1⁄2 hours. It’s not rocket science apply oils to the area where you want to provide support. Some favorite places are wrists, behind the ears, neck, temples, stomach or especially feet. We also suggesting using the Vita Flex Reflexology technique of applying the oils to the nerve pathways on the bottoms of the feet, hands, and ears as it is very effective for getting the oils to where they need to go.
  1. INTERNALLY: In water/drinks, cooking/baking, in capsules etc. Be sure to use glass or stainless steel when drinking essential oils in water. Citrus oils especially can digest petrochemicals, so it’s important not to use plastic. Young Living now has a Vitality essential oils line that are designated for internal use, so look for those when you want to use internally!

Proper Essential Oil Topical Dilution Ratios

Proper Essential Oil Topical Dilution

This is advice I’ve gotten from both Young Living’s guidebooks and aromatherapy experts.

Let’s talk about carrier oils. They are non-essential oils used for dilution. There are many to choose from, including, olive oil, sweet almond oil, grapeseed, fractionated coconut, coconut, and jojoba.

Proper usage is indicated on each essential oil label. Please follow label instructions. The idea of “if a little is good, a lot is better” is not always correct. Essential oils are very potent and powerful, so start low and go slow. In most cases 1-2 drops are adequate and using more may waste product. Depending on the essential oil you can gradually build up to 3-4 uses per day if desired. Excessive use of essential oils may increase the risk for adverse reactions.

Basic Essential Oil Safety Tips

Basic Essential Oil Usage and Safety Tips

Essential oils are potent gifts from nature that can often be more powerful than expected. In order to prevent misuse of these precious oils and ensure their maximum benefit, please follow precautions.

  • Do not put essential oils directly in eyes or ear canal, it will burn.
  • If an essential oil gets in your eye, put milk or a carrier oil around the eye for relief. Do NOT use water as oil and water don’t mix!
  • If an essential oil feels hot to the skin, immediately apply a carrier oil on the area for relief.
  • If a rash occurs at any time after application of an oil, refrain from applying topically for a few days, and start back slowly with dilution of a carrier oil.
  • Pregnant women, epileptics, and those with high blood pressure should consult their doctors as there are a few oils that should be avoided.
  • Essential Oils are not recommended orally or topically for anyone undergoing chemo or radiation. Inhaling the oils for relaxation purposes, emotional purposes, or occasional nausea is okay if your doctor approves.
  • I do not recommend peppermint, rosemary, sage or eucalyptus under the age of 5, and wintergreen under the age of 12. If previously applied to a child with no reaction, you may continue the use of the oil.
  • Citrus oils are photosensitive, so if applied topically, avoid being in the sun for a long period of time.
  • If you are allergic to anything, always read the label.
  • If taking medication on a regular basis, or have a medical condition, always consult your doctor.

Toxic Chemicals to Avoid and Why in Personal Care Products and Cosmetics

Toxic Chemicals to Avoid and Why in Personal Care Products and Cosmetics

I could literally do a whole other class just on the toxic chemicals founds in personal care products and cosmetics. However, I don’t like dwelling on the negative, so I’m just going to hit the highlights.

It only takes 26 seconds for products we place on our bodies to enter the bloodstream – do you know what’s getting in your bloodstream?

The skin is the largest organ on your body – what we put on our skin and hair MATTERS as it’s literally being distributed all over the body. It is so important that we use products that do not contain toxic and harmful chemicals, which sadly abound in today’s shampoos, conditioners and body washes. The worst ones of all are those from places like Bath and Body Works which are heavily scented with artificial fragrances, which are known to irritate and aggravate the respiratory system.

The reason there are so many toxic products on the market is for two reasons: The American government doesn’t require health studies or pre-market testing of the chemicals in personal care products, even though just about everyone is exposed to them. And secondly, products are much cheaper to make when they can be man-made in a lab insteading of coming from nature.

Here are the most common ingredients you’ll find and a little bit about what makes them dangerous (from the ewg.org):

Formaldehyde: “A potent preservative considered a known human carcinogen by the International Agency on Research on Cancer. Formaldehyde, also an asthmagen, neurotoxicant and developmental toxicant, was once mixed into to many personal care products as antiseptic. This use has declined. But some hair straighteners are based on formaldehyde’s hair-stiffening action and release substantial amounts of the chemical.”

Fragrance:It may help sell products from face cream to laundry detergent, but do you know what’s in it? Fragrances are in everything from shampoo to deodorant to lotion. Federal law doesn’t require companies to list on product labels any of the chemicals in their fragrance mixture. Recent research from EWG and the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics found an average of 14 chemicals in 17 name brand fragrance products, none of them listed on the label. Fragrances can contain hormone disruptors and are among the top 5 allergens in the world. Our advice? Buy fragrance free wherever possible.”

Oxybenzone: “Sunscreen agent and ultraviolet light absorber, found in the bodies of nearly all Americans, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In human epidemiological studies, oxybenzone has been linked to irritation, sensitization and allergies. A study of 404 New York City women in the third trimester of pregnancy associated higher maternal concentration of oxybenzone with a decreased birth weight among newborn baby girls but with greater birth weight in newborn boys. Studies on cells and laboratory animals indicate that oxybenzone and its metabolites may disrupt the hormone system.”

Parabens (specifically Propyl-, Isopropyl-, Butyl-, and Isobutyl- parabens): “Parabens are estrogen-mimicking preservatives used widely in cosmetics. The CDC has detected parabens in virtually all Americans bodies. According to the European Commission’s Scientific Committee on Consumer Products, longer chain parabens like propyl and butyl paraben and their branched counterparts, isopropyl and isobutylparabens, may disrupt the endocrine system and cause reproductive and developmental disorders.”

The Premium Starter Kit from Young Living - the Cheapest and Easiest Way to Get Started with Essential Oils

The Premium Starter Kit – the Cheapest and Easiest Way to Get Started

Now, I want to share with you how you can get these oils, because they are not sold down at Whole Foods or your corner Walgreens. The oils sold there are much less potent, and some are even adulterated. But Young Living’s oils are very high quality, therapeutic grade oils.

The way that Young Living has decided to sell them is through individual members sharing with others – they don’t pay for an advertising department and use us instead so we can offer you support. When you buy oils in store or online from just anywhere, you won’t get a team of support helping you learn how to use the oils. And especially when you join my team! We offer monthly Facebook classes, webinars, promotions, giveaways and blog posts so you are always learning!

You can purchase the oils we just discussed for $163 and that would be the retail price. No sale or discount. But there’s a much cheaper way to get them and that’s as a wholesale member!

You can actually get this Everyday Oils set, plus a home diffuser, PLUS this little starter kit with an extra oil in it, Stress Away, Ningxia Red samples, and little sample sachets you can share or throw in your purse, all for $160! You save over $150 this way. At the same time, you automatically become a wholesale member which means you get 24% off everything!

Now, don’t let the term member scare you. There are no monthly minimums or order requirements. In order to keep your membership after one year, you just need to purchase about $50 worth of products the next year. If you don’t want to, that’s fine! No one is going to hunt you down – there are no penalties or cancellation fees and you could reinstate your membership at any time.

For instance, this past year I’ve earned about 700 points, which is $700 worth of FREE products! I have saved so much money, and am saving even more now that my percentage is at 20%
