We have experienced many culture shocks as our three boys have adjusted to German Grundschule (elementary school). We really didn’t know what we were in for when we moved here and just how difficult it would be!
Our German Grundschule Culture Shocks!
Continuing in our series about how our American kids are doing in German schools, here’s our experience in a German Grundschule (Elementary School). Our boys started in February of 2021 in the 2nd, 4th and 5th grades. Besides the obvious language barrier, there have been MANY other cultural differences we were not prepared for! It’s all part of the adventure of living in another country.

Our Story
In February of 2021, we packed up our American family of six, with four kids ages 11 and under, and moved halfway across the world to Germany to follow our dream of living in Europe again! When we were first married, we lived for two years in France and fell in love with the European way of life. Moving to Germany has been a whirlwind, especially with four kids in tow, but we’re already growing stronger and better from the experiences we are having. It has NOT been easy, but that’s how it usually is in life when you go after your dreams!
