How to Work in the Round {Crochet Tutorial}

Working in the round in crochet is a very important skill to learn as it will take your skills to the next level! You need to know how to work in the round to make hats, appliques, Granny Squares and more. Here is my photo tutorial for you to learn!

This is using a double crochet stitch (DC) to make a hat for a baby. The same principles taught here apply to making any round, just replace my DC stitch with the stitch you are using.

To form the beginning circle, you can either make a magic ring or chain (CH) 3.

and join to the beginning CH with a slip stitch (SL ST).

Typically, you join each new round with slip stitch and chain according to the pattern directions. However, in some rounds, you will work a continual round where you don't join each round but simply continue around and around without stopping, but keep track of each new round with a stitch marker or piece of yarn.

See my next post on how to create invisible seams for each round so you avoid the ugly gap or bump. It's a SUPER easy technique!

The picture below is an example of joining the new round with a slip stitch (SL ST), chain (CH) 2, and then double crochet (DC) in the same stitch.
