Crochet Granny Stitch Flower – Free Crochet Pattern
This flower is so cute and is my new fave. I can see myself making tons of these to embellish purses, headbands and bracelets. They are easy to make and the color possibilities are endless!

Abbreviations
- SC = single crochet
- HDC = double crochet
- CH = chain
- SL ST = slip stich
Materials
- Hook: G (4.25 mm)
- Yarn: Worsted weight – I used Sugar'n Cream cotton yarn
Tip for Working in the Round and Changing Colors Often
It makes it so much easier at the end of your project to crochet over your tails when working in the round, especially Round 1. Then you have less tails to sew in at the end and can just clip them off!
The Pattern
Round 1
- CH 3
- SL ST to form a ring
- CH 2
- 9 SC in the ring (10 SC total)
- Join to beginning CH 2 with a SL ST
Round 2
- You could change colors here – if you do, join with a SL ST and continue below
- CH 2
- Work 2 HDC's in the same space as the CH 2 (the beginning CH 2 isn't technically in it's own space, so you're really working next to it, but that's how it's called in a pattern)
- *Skip 1 space
- Work 3 HDC's in the next space
- CH 2*
- Repeat from * around until you have worked 5 sets of HDCs
- Join to beginning CH 2 in 1 strand of the 2nd CH (this helps to keep that first set of 3 together and not separate the CH 3 from the set)
Round 3
- The only difference between rounds 2 and 3 is that you CH 3 instead of 2, in between the granny stitches of 3 HDCs
- You could change colors here – if you do, join with a SL ST and continue below
- CH 2
- Work 2 HDC's in the same space as the CH 2 (the beginning CH 2 isn't technically in it's own space, so you're really working next to it, but that's how it's called in a pattern)
- *Skip 1 space
- Work 3 HDC's in the next space
- CH 3*
- Repeat from * around until you have worked 5 sets of HDCs
- Join to beginning CH 2 in 1 strand of the 2nd CH (this helps to keep that first set of 3 together and not separate the CH 3 from the set)
And that's it! Easy peasy. I could make a bunch of these in one sitting. They're perfect to accessorize hats, purses, blankets, sweaters, bags and more!
I love all the crochet items. They have inspired me to start crocheting again after stopping years ago due to Rheumatoid Arthritis. I appreciate that they are free patterns however for some reason I am unable to print them out from my phone which is all I have.
