Peppermint Mocha Sugar Scrub Recipe – Great for Gifts!
Here’s a natural peppermint mocha sugar scrub recipe that I just know you’re going to love to celebrate the holidays! This recipe is affordable and easy to make, making it perfect to use as special holiday gifts for friends, family, teachers, and more! It uses coconut oil, sugar, vanilla extra, coffee, cocoa, and peppermint essential oil.
How do Sugar Scrubs Work?
Don’t you just love having little luxuries in the bathroom? Especially ones that smell amazing, are good for you, all-natural and don’t break the bank? Well this one covers all of that. Oh yeah, baby. You can use this to:
- Exfoliate
- Moisturize
- Cleanse
- Soften Rough Skin (like knees, heels and elbows)
- Remove makeup and dirt
It can also be a great way to exfoliate and moisturize your hands and body, especially during the winter months when the skin gets very dry and cracked. You can incorporate ingredients that actually heal and protect your skin, too, like Vitamin E oil!
I have it on good authority that Mrs. Claus makes and keeps this recipe for her and her friends in the North Pole!
Coconut Oil Has Healing Properties
You could use any carrier oil you like in this peppermint mocha sugar scrub recipe, but my favorite one to use is coconut oil for a few reasons.
First, it adds a delish coconut scent!
Second, it's super moisturizing.
Third, coconut oil has it’s own healing qualities due to the lauric acid it contains. Lauric acid is a medium chain saturated fatty acids (MCFA) that is converted in the body into a compound called monolaurin, an antiviral and antibacterial that destroys a wide variety of disease causing organisms. So, coconut oil does more than other carrier oils by killing germs while at the same time, drawing them out of the body.
PrintNatural and Moisturizing Peppermint Mocha Sugar Scrub Recipe
An all natural peppermint mocha sugar scrub recipe to celebrate the holidays, pamper yourself, and make to use as very affordable gifts! This recipe uses coconut oil, sugar, vanilla extract, coffee, cocoa, and peppermint essential oil. It's Mrs. Claus approved!
- Prep Time: 5
- Total Time: 5
- Yield: 8 oz. 1x
Ingredients
- 1/2–3/4 cup white sugar (start with 1/2 cup and add more if necessary)
- 1/4 cup coconut oil
- 1 tsp. Vanilla Extract (optional, but adds a lovely, vanilla scent. Add more if you want a stronger vanilla scent.)
- 1 tbsp. Cocoa Powder
- 1 tbsp. ground coffee
- 16 drops Peppermint Essential Oil
- 8 oz. glass jar – brown amber with black lid, clear with gold top (more pricey but pretty), mason jar with hinged lid
Instructions
Soften the coconut oil over the stove or in the microwave – 10-15 seconds should be enough. Mix all the ingredients in a bowl, stirring well. Spoon into an 8 oz. container, or split it into two 4 oz. containers. Double or triple the recipe to make these as Christmas gifts!
Notes
Instead of coconut oil, you could use Sweet Almond, Olive, Grapeseed, Jojoba or another carrier oil. However, it may be more liquidy than using coconut oil. Coconut oil hardens at room temperature or colder 72 degrees Fahrenheit) and I like how it stays creamy, like a lotion. If you'd like it to be more liquidy, use a one of the other carrier oils.
You could also do half Peppermint and half Wintergreen Essential Oil if you'd like an even more minty scent.
Essential oils eat through plastic and destroy it, unless it’s PETE or HDPE plastic. This will be indicated on the bottom of the jar.
